I should be able to set my default mode to "Edit Access" instead of "Read Only," either as an individual user preference or as a company-wide setting.

Yes please - this move turned something as streamlined as updating a schedule (couple clicks) - to added clicks and time needed (per updated schedule this adds up fast)
